Do you have a happy place? Someplace special only to you; someplace that makes you really happy? Is it fishing down by the lake with Grandpa? Or baking in the kitchen with Grandma? Or listening to music with Dad? Nora learns about happy places and realizes everyone else has one but her. Where will she find her happy place? She is so concerned about finding her happy place, she doesn’t realize all the happiness surrounding her. Perhaps Nora is thinking too hard and looking too far for that special happy place. What do you think?

Julia Grams’ picture book story, Happy Place, is all about happiness and finding that special place that truly makes you happy. The plot follows Nora’s journey as she studies her family and friends and asks each of them about their special happy place. Even her friend has a special happy place. As Nora learns about each of these happy places, she starts to recognize the key ingredient to a happy place: people you love. This is a powerful message and one that we all need to recognize and appreciate. Happiness is the love we feel all around us, love that is warm and comforting and certainly makes for a great happy place. Beautifully illustrated, this charming story will warm your heart as you journey with young Nora to find your own special happy place. At the end of the book, the author provides a special page for the reader to draw a picture of their own happy place.
