Haunting Justice is a work of mystery fiction penned by author Linda M. Williams, and is one of the JJ Gilbert Mysteries series. The central focus is on JJ herself, who works by day as a photographer but also has a calling in mediumship. After being tasked with the unpleasant job of taking snaps at her former high school bully’s wedding, JJ notices signals that a bad spirit may be following the bullying Karen Quinn around. Though Karen is, at first, not keen to co-operate, JJ perseveres and becomes determined to root out the source of this dark energy and find out why Karen is its target. What she discovers leads her into a dark mystery that’s way over her head.

Combining the sleuth and paranormal genres works really well for author Linda M. Williams, whose novel also fits the chick lit genre for its quirky and enjoyable female heroine. JJ Gilbert is a woman on a mission, though admittedly she’s only just finding her feet in the world of investigation, and this makes her a very likeable and endearing heroine with whom we can unravel the mystery, rather than being some aloof expert. I enjoyed the emotional quality of the story and the web of relationships trailing back to high school, and although Karen was a kind of villain at first, she was well developed and none of the characters were stereotypical. The plot regarding the dark spirit was well resolved, tense and exciting, and overall I think that Haunting Justice has everything you could want from a semi-cosy paranormal mystery read.

JJ Gilbert is beautiful, intelligent, witty, and extremely 'sensitive'. The last thing JJ was in the mood for on the day she was to be photographing her friend Lexi's dream wedding was an angry spirit hovering over Karen (a girl JJ has known and never got along with since high school). When JJ tries to inform Karen that her accidents and panic attacks may be caused by this negative spirit that has attached itself, she is mocked and reminded that she was once referred to as a 'mental case' in school. And what's worse? Luke, one of the most important people in JJ's life, seems to be siding with Karen. When JJ realizes this spirit is taking a toll on her own life and draining her energy, she knows it's up to her to connect with the spirit and unravel the mystery in order to save them all and help the spirit achieve the one thing it may have been searching for all along. Justice.

Haunting Justice: A JJ Gilbert Mystery by Linda M. Williams is a paranormal/suspense/mystery novel all rolled into one gripping read. If you love a good ghost story, Haunting Justice is a great read! It grabbed me right away and I couldn't put it down until I discovered the truth. The story is well written, perfectly paced, full of believable, likable characters, and has enough twists and turns to leave you chilled, thrilled, and rooting for a happy ending. I greatly enjoyed this supernatural mystery and look forward to reading more from this author. Great job. Five stars!

JJ Gilbert is photographing her best friend's wedding when the camera lens picks up something unexpected: there's a spirit attached to Karen, a guest at the wedding and the high school bully that made JJ's life miserable after her twin brother's death in a bus accident. JJ immediately knows that she is obligated to help Karen as a psychic, but she doesn't like it. What burns more is that she learns that Karen dated Luke, a close friend, in high school after she graduated - and nobody told her until now. It seems the romance might be rekindled as Karen leans on Luke to confide in him over problems in her marriage. JJ decides to do the right thing and help, but two things converge to complicate the matter: JJ has no experience dealing with dark spirits, and both Karen and Luke misconstrue JJ's help as an intrusion, and they turn on her.

Haunted Justice: A JJ Gilbert Mystery by Linda M. Williams is a great mystery that gets to the heart of important matters like doing what's right (no matter the consequences), romance, friendship, and knowing when to help and when to "back off" in the thorny issues that tend to happen in life. I enjoyed Haunted Justice because it's not your typical mystery. Even skeptics of psychics will find this story both believable and interesting as the number of potential "suspects" in the case of who the spirit could be keeps growing and showing signs of being linked to Karen, the central person. What's equally interesting is how all of these tragedies tie together to reveal a "real life" situation unfolding in the background that doesn't become clear until the novel is coming to a close. It's a great, fast-paced thriller that is entertaining and exciting. Linda M. Williams has written a wonderful story that I believe both young adult and adult readers and fans of mysteries and the paranormal will enjoy.
