Hero Spell (Liberty Valley Love) is the fourth book in the series by Josie Malone. The story follows Audra Dawson, a pony farm manager who is exceptional at her job. There is nothing she cannot do, but getting the man of her dreams to fall in love with her is perhaps the only thing she has been unable to achieve. Unbeknown to her, Joe Watkins believes he is the man for her. When their paths cross and Audra finally acknowledges Joe, sparks fly. With some help from little Jake and Lynn, it looks as if things can finally fall into place. When animals around the ranch are mistreated, it is up to Audra and Joe to figure out what is happening and how can they stop it before it is too late?

Audra is the reliable character, the one person in this story whom everyone trusts. While this characterization makes Audra credible, it is her feelings of being ignored and loneliness that make her relatable. She is unsure of her abilities when it comes to relationships, although she is confident in her abilities at work. I love how Elinor is Audra’s champion and sounding board. Elinor helps Audra fight for herself rather than just letting her family walk all over her. Joe, on the other hand, is a comfortable man who knows what he wants and how he will get it. As a vet, Joe has direct access to Audra and uses every opportunity to show her why they are perfect for each other. I found Jake and Lynn to be hilarious (and real heroes of the story). The mystery behind the sick animals plays a vital role in keeping the momentum going and holding the interest of readers. I loved the story, loved the characters, and especially loved the ending. A wonderful romance with plenty of action to spice things up, Hero Spell by Josie Malone is highly recommended.

Hero Spell: Liberty Valley Love - Book 4 by Josie Malone continues the series. Audra is the eldest of the Dawson sisters and has given up hope of having a life where she doesn't have to pay the bill for her sisters' and her mother's dreams. Audra is an excellent horse trainer and farm manager, but she has a secret that would change her life if it were known. When her boss is to be married, Audra is once again confronted with Dr. Joe Watkins, who is to be the groom's best man. He is convinced Audra needs him to rescue her and sees himself as the prince and her as Stinkerbelle, as he had nicknamed her years ago. Will Audra decide to stand up to her family, or will she continue living as a Dawson slave, paying her mother's mortgage and sisters' college fees? Meanwhile, a stranger has shown up in Liberty Valley, and he might have some news about Beth, Audra's adopted cousin, who is a homicide detective. Beth disappeared in the national forest while chasing a murderer. There is magic in the air, and Audra is hot on its trail, needing to know what secrets the rest of the Dawson clan guard.

In Hero Spell, Josie Malone writes a light and easy-to-read book which deals with subjects that could have made the book awkward to read, but she tackles them with a sensitive and positive approach. These topics include dysfunctional families and how they can abuse other family members without considering the effect on them. Darlene Dawson, as the matriarch, is a classic example of a meddling and guilt-tripping parent, not willing to accept that her daughters have their own lives and that she should let go. The book speaks about standing up for what is right, protecting animals from people, and taking responsibility for your actions.

Hero Spell: Liberty Valley Love - Book 4 by Josie Malone is an enjoyable paranormal western romance. Audra Dawson is thirty-four years old and runs a pony farm. She still fills his father's shoes after twenty-two years since his leaving. She is the Cinderella of her family. Thus, she doesn't have enough time for her secret writing career or her love life. She's in love with her sister's boyfriend, Ethan, and still can't quit being the family martyr. However, Joe Watkins, the guy she had a major crush on when they were young just returned home. He could be the perfect guy for her, but just to be sure, Lynn and Jake (Audra's boss's children) cast a love spell, (the Hero Spell) to find Audra the “perfect” man.

Hero Spell by Josie Malone is an amazing novel that combines the past with the present. There's a wonderful mix of mystery, family drama, intrigue, and romance. I loved that in the midst of family drama and the love affair between Audra and Joe, mysterious things were happening. There were things like random animal poisonings, children dabbling in witchcraft, and a stranger who claims to have traveled through time that made this story interesting and enjoyable. But what made it more fun was the chemistry and sarcasm between Audra and Joe. Thus, I would like to recommend Hero Spell to those who feel used by their families, those who bailed on their dreams to help others, and those who took on an adult role too early in their lives as they will resonate with it.
