Author Biography

The late Western TV & movie star Alex Cord wrote, “GP Hutchinson has the gift to tell a compelling tale, enlighten you without preaching and keep you on the edge of your seat. He takes you on unexpected trails populated by flesh and blood characters of depth and substance.”

Hutchinson’s Strong Convictions: An Emmett Strong Western won the prestigious Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award for Best First Western of 2015, as well as a National Indie Excellence Award. His very next novel, Strong Suspicions, was a Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards Gold Medal winner. Meanwhile, the second novel in his Cimarron Jack Series, High Plains Redemption, received Editors’ Choice honors from Publishers Weekly’s BookLife independent and small-press publications website.

Currently, Hutchinson is thrilled to be collaborating with DS Productions, authoring and releasing the exciting new high-action Kincaid Western Series.

A resident of Texas for a number of years, Hutchinson’s visits throughout the West have only served to deepen his enthusiasm for the region and his appreciation of its people, history, and folklore. He’s currently a resident of Upstate South Carolina, along with his lovely wife Carolyn. Besides writing, Hutchinson enjoys forays into the mountains, horseback riding, and exploring the history of America’s national pastime, baseball.

Do you love western movies directed by the likes of Quentin Tarantino? If the answer is yes, grab a copy of G.P. Hutchinson's High Plains Redemption. Bronco Buster Quint Woodall finds himself embroiled in events far more than he bargained for when he unwittingly rescues a damsel in distress, Cora Blake, from her cruel future fiance, Julias McAdams. After surviving a beatdown by Julias's goons, Quint takes Cora to the only place he knows; his mother's ranch where he grew up. However, he finds an unexpected nemesis in Slash W., as a certain Hew Boggs preoccupies his mother's attention. To make matters worse, Cora's cold-blooded father uses his influence to make Quint an outlaw and seeks to regain control over his daughter's life. Can Quint and Cora forge a life for themselves and be free?

Author G.P. Hutchinson crafts an engaging western filled with action, romance, and southern banter that makes you turn the pages with eager anticipation of what's to come. The plot moves at a fast pace and is riddled with twists and turns that keep you thoroughly immersed in the narrative. The characters are colorful, with distinct personalities that pop out of the page. Quint and Cora's relationship drives the narrative forward, and I found their dynamic one of my favorite aspects of the story. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of humor sprinkled throughout the pages, and those moments made the narrative all the more enjoyable. I would recommend High Plains Redemption to anyone interested in well-written westerns.

High Plains Redemption is a rip-roaring, action-packed Western novel written by author GP Hutchinson. Set in the troubling times of the late Wild West, the novel spans both the wild countryside and the slick, crime-riddled cities of the Gilded Age of America, creating an exciting and traditional Western that fans of the old era are sure to enjoy. In this particular adventure, bronc-rider Quint Woodall receives a serious spinal injury that sees him kicked out of the show he was performing in for the rest of the season. Quint expects a quiet convalescence and hopeful recovery, but then a mysterious woman bursts into his life, demanding help. When he agrees, the hapless Quint finds himself embroiled in a corruption and kidnapping scandal that could end his life.

I really loved this novel because it encompassed every element that you would expect from a really fully rounded Western yarn. There was plenty of humor and hi-jinks in the initial interactions between the various characters, but then the plot gave way to a grittier, more realistic sense of threat as Quint was embroiled deeper and deeper into the central danger. From Chicago-slick mobster characters to wicked enemies in the Colorado plains, the cast is peppered with exciting dialogue, entertaining chases and terrifying moments of good old-fashioned peril. Overall, I’d definitely recommend High Plains Redemption to all traditional Western fans as a guaranteed enjoyable read, but also to readers who are looking to start out in this genre.
