James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein collaborated on a series of books for upper elementary and middle school students. I Even Funnier is the third book in the Funny series. This series revolves around Jamie Grimm, a middle school student who aspires to be a stand-up comic. Both of his parents were killed in a car accident and Jamie’s injuries left him in a wheelchair. He now lives with his uncle. Recently, Jamie won The Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic Contest in the state of New York. The national finals are in Boston and Jamie is representing his state. Jamie’s cousin, Stevie, is a bully and makes it his goal in life to humiliate Jamie. Several unforeseen events threaten to keep Jamie from Boston. Will Jamie make it to Boston?

James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein have created a delightfully funny series that even children who do not like to read will embrace. The main character, Jamie, is extremely funny, intelligent, and ambitious. The authors have subtly worked in life lessons such as never give up even when adversity and hardships seem to plague you. Readers watch as Jamie deals with his cousin, a bully that loves to humiliate him. There is also a lesson about learning to put others' needs before your own. I Even Funnier will have the reader laughing out loud. The illustrations by Laura Park are amazing and add to the text. My copy of this book is in audio format, read by Frankie Seratch. Seratch does a wonderful job, adding just the right inflections to his voice. I’ll be giving copies of this series to two of my grandchildren.
