I Love My Kids, But I Don’t Always Like Them: Expert advice for parents of challenging kids is a work of non-fiction in the parenting and advice and guidance subgenres. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Franki Bagdade. The book is a guide for parents to support them during the difficult periods of their child’s development. Taking an approachable style in discussing the experiences of the author during their 20 years of observation of young minds, the book addresses both the behavior of difficult children and the emotional effect that such behavior has on parents.

There’s a complex feeling that parents can have toward their children during difficult periods in their development where frustration can sometimes develop into resentment due to the constant deluge of problems caused by children who don’t want to listen. Many parents end up feeling guilty over these feelings. Author Franki Bagdade has created a non-judgmental space for parents to acknowledge their feelings as natural and not a source of shame whilst addressing the problems with child development that lead to these strains in the parent-child relationship. This book is practical and frank, and the willingness of the author to open up about her own experiences lends this book accessibility and credibility that few other books in this field can match. Overall, I Love My Kids, But I Don’t Always Like Them is designed to provoke thought and discussion on a difficult aspect of raising children that too many parents struggle with in silence. It’s an important work that will help deepen an understanding of your children and validate difficult-to-accept feelings, and I'd recommend it to parents everywhere.
