I Want to Be a Police Officer by Samuel John teaches children about the functions and duties of police officers. The author intends to help kids understand more about what the police do and their importance in society. The topics addressed include some of the less well-known work of police officers, such as filing reports. The author also describes some of the tools that police use such as walkie-talkies and batons. The book is intended for children through age 6, and they are urged throughout, both directly and indirectly, to treat police officers with respect. Children are also advised to ask the police for help if they need it. The book is fully illustrated with drawings of police helping children, catching bad guys, and otherwise doing their duty.

Children will enjoy I Want to Be a Police Officer by Samuel John whether they can read, are just learning to, or need to have the book read to them. The book explains exactly what the duties of police officers involve in a way that’s simple yet comprehensive. Not only is the book full of valuable information for kids, but it’s also written in a way that they will find highly entertaining. I also liked that the author stresses how children should respect the police and look to them if they need help. The illustrations are bright and attractive, sure to keep the attention of even young readers. I highly recommend this book to children, their parents, and their grandparents. I hope that the author will consider writing additional books along the same lines relating to other professions.
