In If I Lived On A Farm!, written by Shona Darin and illustrated by Anne Zimanski, a young boy dreams of living on a farm as a farm animal. He imagines how great it would be to supply milk as a dairy cow (that makes barnyard cats meow) or be full of fruits (like fig) as a Yorkshire pig or a Clydesdale horse that guides the crop wagon (on course), to name a few. Yet, as he imagines and wonders what it would be like to be a farm animal, he realizes that it is special to just be himself in his own uniqueness. Through his imaginings, he learns that different animals and different people have differing positive traits and skills, as well as their own uniqueness, which is something to discover through self-acceptance and celebrate.

Shona Darin effectively uses rhyme to create a story that is catchy and fun to read yet is also a treasure trove of lessons for youngsters, lessons ranging from self-acceptance and self-discovery to lessons about kindness, gentleness, and consideration. The illustrations by Anne Zimanski are vibrant, eye-catching, and perfect for the tone of the story and for its young audience. It depicts the young boy's and the farm animals' emotions and shows them being excited, enthusiastic, and happy. If I Lived On A Farm! has all the elements of a perfect book for parents and youngsters to enjoy together; it is creative and clever, stimulating to young minds, and will pique the imaginations of parents and youngsters.
