Herman the mouse is enjoying springtime. The flowers are in full bloom and the grass has turned green. He is happy to see the changes happening on the farm, and inside and outside the red barn. The pig has had new babies and Ned the horse surprises him by showing off his new baby foal. He then saw Mama Cow trying to teach her new calf how to drink from the pail. All the while when Herman sees this, he is happy that it is just him and he makes his way back to his home in the pile of straw. When he reaches home, he sees a baby mouse in his room. His mother tells him he has grown bigger and even though he has to help clean, tell stories to the baby mouse, share his toys, and help when the baby cries, he still will have time just for him.

I'm Sure Glad It's Just Me: Herman Gets a Baby Brother by Tammy Brown is a wonderful story about family bonding, acceptance, and love and also introduces children to farm animals and tells them what the babies of these animals are called. Love always grows bigger and that message is conveyed beautifully through this story of Herman the mouse. The author's illustrations bring her words to life and take young readers right into the farm where Herman and the rest of the animals are living. It is a good storybook for parents and tutors to use for storytelling sessions at school and at home, because of the life lessons it conveys and also for the educational content. Children will enjoy seeing the brown spider and its babies on every page of this book too.
