Imprints of the Past is the first novel in the Of Imprint and Erasure series by Gareth Ian Davies. D was just out of prison and looking forward to living a peaceful life in St. Louis. He had a job, an apartment, and a girlfriend who loved him. However, things had changed in his beloved St. Louis. Something dangerous was lurking in the shadows, and it seemed as if only D could see it. He didn’t believe in ghosts, but there was no other explanation for what he was seeing. Help came in the form of schoolteacher Rosalind who mentored him through the mess that was his life. As D battled against the unknown, was there a chance for him to survive it?

Gareth Ian Davies did a great job of exploring themes of deceit, the fear of the unknown, and danger all rolled into one brilliant urban paranormal fantasy. D was a relatable character that I could understand and connect with effortlessly. Filled with mystery, questions, and suspense, Imprints of the Past had me turning pages and looking for more. The novel's setting was incredible, and the descriptions of St. Louis made me feel as if I was right there. Rosalind was a lifesaver for D and the guiding light he needed to get through it all. The character development was fantastic, and I loved how D changed from a skeptic to a believer and a fighter in the end. The dialogue was smooth, the flow of the story was perfect, and the plot was engrossing. I would love to know even more about D’s past and have a peek at Rosalind’s history. It was exciting, and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book of the series.
