In My Name by Marja Verschoor-Meijers explores the definition of not taking the Lord's name in vain. What exactly does that mean, and as Christians, do we follow that commandment daily? How can you live in today's society and still honour the Lord’s name? This is an insightful look into why it is better to listen to the voice of God’s spirit than follow holy law. It asks why would a caring God demand punishment for taking His name in vain? Why was it so important long ago for people to obey the law of God and receive His blessing, or face the consequences of disobedience; Galatians 3:10. This book uses stories from the Old and New Testaments, and the author's personal experience, to understand why this commandment became law, and how we can interpret this today. How can we show our obedience and love to God every day? There are thought-provoking questions to consider which will completely open your mind to new, life-changing possibilities. Through this remarkable book, you will understand how to open your heart to God's love and blessing.

This remarkable book takes an in-depth look into the meaning of living spiritually with God in your heart. The author asks the question, ‘Do you take the Lord's name in vain?’ The author thoroughly examines this question from a variety of angles. The book is very astute and looks at both Old and New Testament with an open mind. I loved the questions at the end of each chapter, and they make you consider your own lifestyle and values. The author has actually made me realise that attending church every Sunday is not enough. To give love to those who are not so fortunate, and not to judge others is a true way to receive God's blessing, ‘Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?’ An excellent read and recommended to anyone who isn’t afraid to question and explore new possibilities.

In My Name: Inviting God’s Holy Presence in Daily Situations by Marja Verschoor-Meijers is an informative and life-changing book that seeks to explore the name ‘Lord’ as it appears in the Bible and also to expound on its profound meaning. Marja Verschoor-Meijers takes a unique approach in that she does not focus on how not to use the name, but rather on how the Church was given the name as a blessing. She further explains how the Holy Spirit has been availed to the Church and how He changes us inwardly so that our character reflects our new life. Ultimately then, the believer becomes a follower of Christ out of their love for their savior. In My Name is a reflection of the beautiful message of the New Testament that speaks of salvation and redemption while blending this with the amazing revelation that comes with recognizing Jesus Christ as Lord over all.

The message perpetuated by Marja Verschoor-Meijers in this book is critical to understanding the depth of the name ‘Lord’ and recognizing its significance. This is not achieved by following the law, but out of the relationship we now share with God. As I read the book, I was reminded that when we appreciate the Lord’s name, we not only fulfill the law through the work of the Holy Spirit in us, but also share in the favor brought forth by this understanding. Marja Verschoor-Meijers shows how the requirements of the old covenant, which at one point caused death, now, through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His abounding grace, are reflected in our walk with Him. While reading In My Name, I also became aware of the power that lies in appreciating Jesus’ Lordship, which results in shifting my perspective and aligning it with His Word. Definitely an enlightening read!

In My Name by Marja Verschoor-Meijers is not a book for everyone. It is a book for Christians. But to be even more specific, I would say it is for sincere Christians who seek a more meaningful personal relationship with God, and a deeper understanding of who God is and what He wants from us. There are a lot of bigger books written by very smart people that try to answer these questions, but I have not read any that explain things in such a simple and clear manner. The average Christian layman with even a modest education can get a lot out of this book, as can academics and scholars. This is what I like most about In My Name. I have never subscribed to the belief that God’s word is only for intellectuals. I believe the message should be accessible to all readers. That means clear writing and a straightforward concise message. Marja Verschoor-Meijers has accomplished this with In My Name and she has created a beautiful book in the process.

In My Name: Inviting God’s Holy Presence in Daily Situations is logically constructed, giving you step by step directions as you make your way towards the central message. There are plenty of scriptural quotes and references. One of my favorite things about In My Name are the pages where the reader is asked to meditate on what they have just read and then journal about what they come up with. This is a powerful tool for understanding the book’s core teaching. This is a great book for fine-tuning your relationship with God.
