In Pursuit of Calm is a work of nonfiction in the memoir form, and was penned by Daniel Fuselier, PsyD. In this touching and heartfelt memoir, the author bares all, taking us from a turbulent childhood filled with many demons through his struggles with alcohol and addiction. As Daniel traverses the country on his quest for peace, he tries to discover his true passion and dives deep into the study of psychology. What awaits him there only leads to more questions and new revelations, causing him to wonder if his demons will ever be laid to rest and if calm really does exist anywhere in life.

Author Daniel Fuselier has crafted a superb work of nonfiction that encapsulates many of the common battles that people struggling with addiction face every day. The narrative style balances the informative, the personal, and the storytelling elements exceptionally well. In doing so, the work never feels overwhelming but sustains its emotional arc. We are treated to a deeply personal view of Daniel, his psyche, the influences that led him down the path of addiction, and also the immense self-reflection and inner strength that pushes him through the darkest times. The book is also well organized to deliver a narrative packed with detail and poignant reflection opportunities, and moments to pause and take everything in before the next big moment begins. Overall, I would certainly recommend In Pursuit of Calm to anyone who is on the same journey, at whatever stage, as a source of empathy, guidance, and belief in a better future. A touching read indeed.
