Author Biography

Bobby Straus is a public speaker and author of In Search of A Way Out: A True Story of Depression, Bullying, and a Journey Toward Hope. In this uplifting story, Bobby shares private details of his decades-long struggle to overcome depression to give the millions that are suffering, and their families, the hope that recovery is possible and the comfort and relief of knowing that they are not alone. In support of organizations dedicated to building awareness about mental health, Bobby offers his time to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), as one of their speakers educating, informing, and giving hope to patients in mental healthcare facilities, students and staff in high schools and universities, families of those caring for loved ones suffering from depression and other groups.

Bobby has spent more than thirty years working in the financial markets as a trader, professional money manager, and investment advisor. Bobby has earned a BA in journalism from New York University and an MBA from the University of Denver. He lives in Colorado with his wife, son, and their canine comedian, Jasper.

For nearly fifty years, he has lived hopelessly shackled by depression which he describes in the book as his “reality,” a prisoner in his mind, trying to escape. His depression has had a heavy toll on him, making him suffer to the extent that he has to be brought to the hospital at an explosive moment. This book explores the different stages of depression, from anxiety to twisted thinking, from withdrawal to disconnecting from others, and finally hopelessness. Bobby Straus takes readers through his journey from childhood to adult life and uncovers the different stages of his mental illness and the ultimate hope that changed his life.
