In the Shadow of a Lie by Iris Blobel is a wonderful, heart-warming romance that spans two continents and two generations. The time period for this story is open-ended. Bar the use of cell phones, it could be written in this century or the last. It is a heartfelt story about family bonds, fear, regret, love, the need to control, and the consequences of actions that may have been taken years ago that come back to haunt a person, turning their world upside down. The main characters are Lani Dekker, Dylan Harper, Teddy and Mae Larson, Tobias Linaker, and Lani’s grandparents.

In the Shadow of a Lie catches the reader's attention in the opening paragraph and then takes the reader by the hand and leads them along a rocky path to the last page with a surprising ending that is totally unexpected. The descriptions of the area in which the story takes place are wonderful and help to bring images to mind of the world beyond where we live and to see a totally different part of the world through the eyes of the characters. Iris Blobel uses each of her characters with their own unique personalities to build a lovely and compelling story that makes it a must-read. The author highlights the fact that romance has not changed but brings a whole new dimension to how we see it and how the younger generation sees it. Thank you for this delightful story. I really enjoyed it.
