Author Biography

I am a California-based published children's author, professional voice talent, poet, and translator. I came to this second career from the world of non-profit where I spent two decades using my words to bring funds to disability initiatives. I've always loved reading and writing poetry and wanted to use this book and illustrations to share a more real and expansive India then the few exotic images that are usually known about India in the west. The verses and descriptions are entertaining and the fun facts at the bottom of the page will hopefully encourage readers to look up and learn more about the cities and towns that they encounter on the page.

Indi-Alphabet: Come! Travel India with Us by Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan takes young readers on a magical ride through the many cities and places of India, thereby helping children understand the culture and essence of this fascinating country. The journey not only introduces readers to various places in India, but also tells them about the importance of these places and what makes them special using lyrical verses that capture the essence of each place, along with its geographical and cultural diversity. Teaching the alphabet, introducing children to new places and new concepts cannot be more interesting than this. So what are you waiting for? Let us go on a journey to see places in India and learn what makes them memorable.

I like the author’s approach to the topic. She makes learning the alphabet fun and the book is a good way for readers to learn more about India, its culture, food, religion, people, and many other interesting facts. The thought of introducing a country to children using letters of the alphabet is original and unique and that is what makes the book appealing to readers. The illustrations are bright and colorful and they make the author’s words vivid and insightful. Each page has a letter of the alphabet introducing a place in India, along with a small poem and a colorful illustration, which makes it entertaining to readers. India’s rich history, diversity, and heritage have been put together in this book, making it a great way to learn more about the country, not only for children in India but also globally.
