Into Shadow’s Fire is a work of fiction in the science fiction, action, and adventure subgenres and serves as the second installment in the World of Strangers and Pilgrims series. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author Mark Castleberry. The book continues the journey of Jon Vega and Nicolea Dan a decade after the events of the previous installment. Now a part of the Union of Light, they must help the people of Sulia who are being persecuted on religious grounds by the Pagonic Imperium. As they plan to flee to the stars, the Empire prepares to do everything it can to stop them.

Like a lot of great science fiction, this book is an allegory for the world around us and wastes no time in exploring the subjects of faith and religious persecution. Mark Castleberry’s writing will quickly resonate with a great many readers, shining a light on the experience of having to flee for your life because your faith offends the regime in which you live. These themes are explored in the beautiful world that the author has created, a stunning and creative universe that serves as the perfect backdrop to this story. The tale of Thermonte was expertly woven into the wider narrative to help expand the world of the story and create a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the threat the people of Sulia faced, aided in no small part by Thermonte’s excellent characterization. Overall, Into Shadow’s Fire is a worthy entry into the series and continues pushing the saga toward its powerful message.
