Introducing Mindful Meditation for Teens: A Step-by-step Guide to a Meaningful Existence by Charlotte Pennyfeather is an inaugural book written specifically for teenagers on the concept, benefits, and exercise of meditating. Through mindful meditation - that is, the acceptance of one's self without judgement - Pennyfeather helps to bring self acceptance and awareness to a generation of youth faced with the some of the highest levels of stress and anxiety any generation has experienced. Through a series of steps and with detailed explanations, teens can obtain a greater understanding of inner consciousness and apply it toward daily living. At the end of the book there are additional resources provided in the forms of social media, website, and apps.

Introducing Mindful Meditation for Teens touched on many of the issues I see my own teenage daughter struggling with. It's easy to brush these off as little more than teenage angst, but Pennyfeather's compassionate direction was informative to me as well. After reading it, I immediately repeated to my daughter, "You don’t have to be perfect. No one is perfect. Love yourself and be kind to yourself first. Then extend your love and compassion to others around you without judging them either. Stop comparing yourself to anyone. Realize that no matter what, you are special." Coincidentally, my brush off was exactly what required "mindful listening" and "mindful seeing". This is absolutely a book that she and I will read once more together, applying the principles, wisdom, and techniques Pennyfeather offers in the most mindful way I (now) know how.
