Author Biography

Diana Tuorto is a Buffalo, NY-based children's author. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English Writing and History, Diana is also an active horse rescue volunteer. She shares a small farm with her husband, two horses and six cats.

Janie’s New Legs is an uplifting middle-grade children’s book written by Diana Tuorto. Through the eyes of Silver the horse, we learn about his beautiful friendship with a young girl named Janie. She is confined to a wheelchair, yet when she takes riding lessons with Silver, she experiences a wonderful sense of freedom and independence. Silver has had his share of hardships, yet he learns from Janie who courageously handles all the challenges that have come her way. Poignant moments of loss and loneliness are honestly depicted, which highlights the deep and caring relationships that can exist between animals and humans. Readers will enjoy the vivid descriptions of the tranquil farm setting where this story takes place and getting to know the other endearing characters and horses.

Diana Tuorto’s Janie’s New Legs beautifully conveys the enriching and meaningful relationship between Silver and Janie, whose bond survives the test of time. Both are genuinely concerned for one another and it is touching to see the joy and peace that they bring to each other. This uplifting story highlights the immediate and lasting effects of compassion, kindness, and understanding. Janie’s optimism, resilience, and determination inspire Silver and readers on how to deal with and overcome trials. Silver’s strength and unwavering support and devotion for Janie are heartening. This heartwarming tale of faithful friendship will resonate with anyone who has experienced the unconditional love and companionship of a pet. The book is a highly recommended and memorable read.
