Hop on board for an unexpected adventure with a little boy named Jimmy Pizzelli in Joe the Jinx by Caryn Doti Chavez. Summer has ended, and Jimmy Pizzelli has already made a new friend named Joe after his former best friend moved to Boston. Jimmy has always had a vivid imagination. He has no problems being friends with Joe, who is called Joe the Jinx by the rest of his classmates. On the weekend, when his mother takes him to the Seeing Spots Farm, Jimmy invites Joe on the trip, only for things to turn upside down. While Mary, the tour guide, is busy helping the tourists, Jimmy and Joe unwittingly get involved in some avoidable shenanigans. Now, Jimmy is in trouble with his mom. Will he realize the root cause of his troubles?

A fun-filled adventure tale that showcases the wandering brilliance of a child's imagination, Joe the Jinx is an enjoyable treat for young readers. Author Caryn Doti Chavez tells a funny and wholesome tale about a little boy who can't help getting into trouble, much to his mother's chagrin, and who has to listen to his wild stories. This leads to some entertaining misadventures. Rosemarie Gillen's beautiful illustrations capture the spirit of Chavez's story and breathe life into the characters. Young readers will find many relatable traits in the protagonist, Jimmy. I enjoyed his special bond with Joe, and his attempts to avoid blame in front of his mother were hilarious. Overall, this was a thoroughly entertaining reading experience, and I recommend parents introduce this book to their kids!
