Author Biography

I am born in London and hopped the pond to Baltimore, USA where I live with my two daughters and three cats.

Katy on Broadway is the first book in the Kitty in the City series and follows the adventures of Katy Cat, a brave and determined feline who dreams of making it big on Broadway. Along the way, she learns the power of perseverance and the importance of never giving up on her dreams.

Katy's story was inspired by my own singing Tuxedo cat named Mouse, who has her own Instagram following. The book captures the spirit of this magical world of singing cats and their quest to follow their passions.

KatyCat loves to sing and dreams of being a superstar someday. But, the other animals in her neighborhood pick on her and tell her she can’t sing when she goes outside to practice. Gerry and the birds say that singing is their territory, not hers. Katy’s owner, Lilian, comforts her, but she still dreams of being a singer. KatyCat tries to stand her ground and winds up dashing through the city. Lost and afraid, she meets another cat in the alley named Weasel. He tries to help her as she finds her way through the city. Will Gerry and the birds ever stop picking on her? Will she ever find her way home from the city? Will she ever realize her dream of singing? Find out in Katy on Broadway by Ella English.

Katy on Broadway by Ella English is an interesting story about a cat who loves to sing. The mixed cast of people and animals is unique; some encourage KatyCat in her dreams, and others discourage her from trying. The illustrations are as fun and descriptive as the story. The beautiful images allow kids to visualize each scene and character as they read. I love the hidden messages woven through this tale as KatyCat finds herself lost in the city in the company of a strange friend that encourages her to try. I recommend this story to anyone with young children; it will inspire them to follow their dreams even when bullies tell them not to.
