Author Biography

Theresa teaches an exceptional group of elementary students who serve as her unwitting muse. Sorry, tiny humans—no extra credit!
In her free time, she likes to be taken on long walks by her dog—yes; the dog is in charge. She is an avid reader and writer and enjoys planning creative activities for her students. Naughty leprechauns have vandalized her classroom and thwarted would-be treasure hunters with their deposit of little brown nuggets. Ugh—some students even ate them!
And let’s not forget about the gingerbread cookies that like to run rampant throughout the school, teasing students with a meager trail of crumbs and notes that lead to nowhere. Well—we have to practice our map skills somehow!
She is amazed at how quickly her students perform just about anything with the slightest melody from her angelic voice. The Fat Lady from Harry Potter has nothing on her! Perhaps someone should tell her to replicate this behavior training with her dog.
Theresa is passionate about animal rights, and her writing often includes animal protagonists. Her inspiration is a blend of experience as a social worker combined with her classroom experiences—sprinkled with humor and twisted with dark, magical fantasy.
She received a Psychology degree from the University at Albany, a Master’s degree in Education from East Carolina University, and a Ph.D. in Education from North Central University.

Keeper of the Mirror: The Book of Peter is a fantasy adventure novel written by Theresa Nellis. Thirteen-year-old Peter is sick of the rules imposed by his parents, Tom and Kate. When his dog, Sully, accidentally brings a mysterious old man through a magical mirror, Peter sees his chance at freedom. The old man introduces himself as Bael and soon takes Peter under his wing. They travel to New York, where Bael takes three boys named Zack, Huxley, and Omar from a foster home and tricks them into his service. Meanwhile, Peter discovers some dark secrets about himself and Bael. As they hatch plans to steal Kate's powerful family heirloom, Zack prepares to free himself from their clutches. He receives unexpected help from Peter's parents and Sully.

Keeper of the Mirror: The Book of Peter is a solid start to what seems to be a promising fantasy series for kids. Author Theresa Nellis's imaginative tale of a spoiled brat gone rogue is full of magic and wonder, entertaining you from start to finish. The plot moves quickly, and the narrative is laced with wit and deadpan humor. The characters are colorful, with quirks that make their personalities pop out of the pages. Zack and Kate's dynamic provides a stark contrast to Peter and Bael's relationship. I enjoyed them all but found Sully to be my personal favorite. I had a wonderful time reading Keeper of the Mirror: The Book of Peter. I will recommend it to readers who enjoy fantasy adventure stories.
