Kid Lit: An Introduction to Literary Criticism by Tom Durwood is a non-fiction education guide easing the reader into more interesting and reflective literary criticism. Tom Durwood has been a teacher for thirty-two years and offers us his expertise and experience, as teaching has nothing to do with just sharing information. It is, above all, a collaborative experience involving active students who co-create their learning. It is comprehensive as it comprises the most important elements: the theory of literary criticism (the basis to understand any text and not just literature), the in-depth study of various texts (as nothing is better than showing how things can be done), as well as lesson plans for teachers.

I loved Kid Lit: An Introduction to Literary Criticism by Tom Durwood as a literature teacher because it is always enriching and thrilling to dig deeper into one’s trade. I have always learned collaboratively and taught the same way and learning is one of the most important parts of teaching, in my mind. This guide is unique as it deals with all aspects of teaching literary criticism. To top it all, it is highly engaging and is much more than a literature handbook. The author writes: "Your teachers want you to think for yourself, to analyze why things happen, to look under the hood. So will all of your bosses." I could not agree more with this statement. Thank you so much, Tom, for this amazing book which students and teachers alike will treasure and devour to become better students and teachers!
