What would you do if you were the chosen messenger for those who are no longer alive, and you were in danger of extreme physical discomfort if you refuse? Kindred Spirits (A Romantic Comedy about Love, Life, and the Afterlife) by Whitney Dineen is a humorous fiction novel about a young woman who has been appointed to convey dearly departeds' communications. After a near death experience as a small child, Pip made a celestial agreement and woke to find herself an emissary for those that speak from beyond the grave.

After years of trying to have a normal dating life, and failing miserably because of the interference from the other side, Pip's longing for a companion is overwhelming. At her brother's wedding, she is drawn to her new sister-in-law's close friend and one of New York City's most eligible bachelors, Richard. Unfortunately, Pip is required to give Richard what she considers a most inappropriate message. Unhappy and ill at ease, she is unable to say no to the request. When Pip relays the message Richard's father has for him, the response she receives is worse than she dreaded. Now he hates her and believes that she is out for his money. With the other side always popping in, will Pip ever find her soul mate?

Kindred Spirits (A Romantic Comedy about Love, Life, and the Afterlife) by Whitney Dineen is a delightful romance novel with a twist. It has an intriguingly convoluted plot, coordinating characters not only from both sides of the pond but also with inconvenient disruptions from the celestial realm. The characters are engaging, and their amusing antics keep the reader captivated by the story. Once you get involved in the storyline, this is a hard book to set aside. It is a fun and entertaining romance novel. I recommend it to those who enjoy a clean love story with intrusions from the 'other side.'

Richard Bingham, named one of the Top Ten Eligible Bachelors in New York City, was tired of this status. After thirteen years of being divorced and subsequent dating, he wanted nothing more than a happy marriage and family. Too many dates had ended in failure, as woman after woman seemed to be more interested in his financial status than him. He decided to access the services of the East Side Yenta, a matchmaking service. Philippa Fielding, a member of a British aristocratic family and living primarily in London, also had difficulties in finding her soulmate. The main reason for her problems, though, was quite different. Pip had an unique ability in communicating with angels and deceased loved ones, after a life-threatening illness as a young girl. Her best friends, Sephra and Cressida, supported her in her abilities, and in her quest to find a mate. Additionally, her brother, Elliott, and Richard’s friends, Spencer, Eliza and Mimi, play roles in this enchanting novel. Author Whitney Dineen presents one surprise after another in the fictional work, Kindred Spirits.

Although this novel presents a cast of characters, and various geographical settings from New York to London, the reader is able to follow the many twists and turns within the story line. The author writes in a concise, realistic manner, and it is a very engaging read. The book is entertaining and intriguing, as relationships intertwine and evolve over time. The characters grow in unexpected ways, and the reader most likely will expand his/her understanding of afterlife possibilities. In Kindred Spirits, Whitney Dineen entertains and teaches – the hallmarks of a true storyteller; this book is an excellent read.
