He believes that we are all part of a very complex and magnificent system in which we are all dependent on one another and therefore must help and protect each other. Dr. David Florence has spent a lifetime caring for people of all ages as a Physician and that instinct for helping others carried into authoring a series of successful children’s books. His books often focus on entertaining young minds with adventures found in nature that gently also teach valuable life lessons. Inspiration from treating children with special healthcare needs including downs syndrome and orthopedic impairments, can be found in some of Dr. Florence's stories as challenges and differences overcome with the love and help of friends.
Not many people reach 90 years of age with the energy and enthusiasm needed of a children’s book author, but Dr. Florence has managed to do just that. After a long successful medical career as an Orthopedic Surgeon and Hospital Administrator that included related professional writing, Dr. Florence was able to pursue his passion for writing children’s books. After publishing six wonderful books, he continues with creative new adventures featuring captivating characters. David resides in Wisconsin and his family includes six grown children.

You can give people things but they'll always want more - yet if they work for it, they'll have more appreciation for it. In the children's illustrated picture book, King Fazool by Dr. David Florence, children will learn about the importance of work, wisdom, sharing and meeting their own needs. King Fazool wanted to see the people in his kingdom be happy and to reward them, he decided to give them endless amounts of food. Initially, this seemed like a great idea because the townspeople of Ipy Gipy were truly happy but he quickly realized that this great plan would backfire. Once things begin to turn sour with the townspeople, King Fazool sought the wisdom of Ethereal Cabutle, who suggested that the people should grow their own food. So the journey began where the townspeople were taught by the farmers from Boggledopp on how to cultivate their own food. Eventually, King Fazool and the townspeople were happier than before as everyone was able to grow their own food and share what they had personally grown.

Dr. David Florence instilled a lot of principles in this book which I enjoyed, but two important lessons that stood were about work and appreciation. It shows in the book that as a man works he appreciates the rewards but if it's handed to him he may not appreciate it as much. While some resisted growing their own food, others were excited, especially as they began to see the fruits of their labor. This is the same as with change, where there are some that feel despair and anxiety when change occurs while others welcome and appreciate it. As Ethereal says, "Without work, there is no joy, as work is the food of the mind, heart, and soul." Your child will enjoy King Fazool and will learn the various lessons contained in it. Highly recommended.
