Kingdom of Famine is the second book in the Winter Agent Juno series by Mike MacDee, an interesting read with a dystopian setting. It’s an age of total disruption, set against the backdrop of a world dominated by a ruthless matriarchy, where men endure untold suffering at the hands of women. Returning to her dystopian home, ex-commando Juno Radcliffe wants only one thing — say goodbye to her mom who has supposedly committed suicide and with whom she hasn’t had a good relationship. Juno is determined to reconcile with her and let the past be forgotten. But she meets more than she’d imagined — sisters who are ready to destroy her, mad dogs, and a war comrade who carries darkness in their heart. Can she be cowed enough to leave her once-upon-a-time lovely city turned into chaos or will she stand her ground and fight to uncover the truth about her mom?

This is a riveting story for fans of dystopia, a story that leans towards feminism with memorable characters and a strong setting. The author writes about the quest for power and dominance from a fresh perspective, and the reversal of values comes out neatly through the narrative. The writing is beautiful and it combines exciting dialogues with vivid descriptions to create a world that readers will love to navigate. This is a story that focuses on the setting, the characters, and how bad the world can get when we give in to the thirst for power. Kingdom of Famine is engaging, well-plotted, and curiously suspenseful.
