I absolutely loved Ladies of Gothic Horror. Author Mitzi Szereto takes careful time to introduce and dive into the subjects with accessible detail and interesting information. If you are intrigued by the gothic genre and need any semblance of inspiration or motivation, then this is the book for you. Not only does it lay out the stories of the selected writers, but it gives a historical look at their lives, their careers, and their writing. Each of the collected stories is a true testament to the women often forgotten in the gothic horror genre, and exemplifies some truly inspirational women, helping to pave the way for future horror writers.

While Ladies of Gothic Horror (A Collection of Classic Stories) may not be a casual coffee table book, it is certainly an excellent piece of reference material or educational read for a dedicated horror fan. Not only are the pieces collected into one convenient place, but they are also referenced professionally, and given details and back story that is pivotal to getting into the minds of the authors themselves. Mitzi Szereto paid close attention to the details surrounding and supporting the anthology, showing credibility and demonstrating to the reader the opportunity to research further if needed. Overall, it is easy to see that this work is well-deserving of its rating, and has the opportunity to be a boon that can lend itself to many modern-day horror writers (many of whom are also women). Szereto saw where some of these writers left off and took up their mantle, bound to pave the way for future female horror warriors.
