Jordan Elizabeth’s Lisha of Kachine is the second book in the Sea Serpent Riders series. This epic fantasy romance is divided into four parts. Part one, Before, is an introduction to Eben Lancaster and Princess Lisha. Neither of them is happy with their planned future and each takes steps to alter their lives. The second part, The Island of Krystalynn Six Years Later, has Princess Lisha set to travel to a remote island. She is engaged to Viscount Dryden and together they are training sea serpent riders to protect the kingdom. When it becomes apparent that the other riders see her as a burden, Lisha sets out exploring on her own. She leaves Krystalynn to find Eben after she finds an artifact. She also wishes to repay the kindness he has shown her in the past. Part Three, Wolfgram, details the forbidden romance between Princess Lisha and Eben. In the finale, Kachine brings together opposing forces and the uncertain future for Eben and Lisha.

This is one of the best fantasy romances I have read. Jordan Elizabeth uses vivid imagery to make the scenery easy to imagine. I could smell the salty air from the sea and see the peaceful forest full of woodland creatures. The details given to the supporting characters add to the depth of the story. The alternating views between Lisha and Eben place their strengths and insecurities on full display. The sea serpents even had personalities and were protective of Lisha and Eben. The discovery of the destructive past drives Lisha to seek alliances with several families. Both of the characters evolve into admirable leaders, and I felt their confidence made them exceptional leaders. The romance was beautifully written and was relatable to how two people fully develop a love for one another. I recommend Lisha of Kachine to fantasy romance readers who like plenty of action and well-developed characters they can fall in love with.
