A mother, wife and caregiver to her parents who’s have dementia and Alzheimer’s. Currently lives in Minnesota but grew up in New England. During the pandemic when everything closed down, including her job as a hairstylist, D.C. decided to fulfill her childhood dream and become an author. Then, her father got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She knew she wanted to write about it and in a way that kids would like.

What would you do if your very special grandfather went missing? Could you find him? This is the dilemma presented to Logan and his partner, Emily. They’re great sleuths, with an uncanny ability to find things – and people. They’re part of a secret task force, called the Finders. But it gets rather close to home when Logan and Emily are called upon to find Logan’s missing grandfather, PJ. According to his grandmother, PJ had left as usual that morning for his chess game in the park but never showed up. Can Logan put aside personal feelings and concerns and find his grandfather? And, will he discover why his grandfather didn’t show up at the chess game? Perhaps he won’t like what he discovers.
D.C. Spaar’s middle-grade novel, Logan & Emily Files: PJ’s Perplexing Predicament, is another installment in the Logan and Emily mystery series. The author engages young readers right from the beginning, sharing just enough background to allow readers who haven’t read the previous book to be able to follow along with ease. There are some sketches to help move the story along. I particularly love the opening line: “Logan Scott is his name and finding things is his game!” This certainly defines the main character, as well as allows young readers to relate to Logan and his unique abilities, something youngsters need to find within themselves. The plot moves at a fast pace, with enough dialogue and descriptive narrative to set the stage and develop the characters. Another great mystery read for young readers.
