Love Poems by Dr. Tony Beizaee is a collection of twenty-five powerful poems expressing romantic and spiritual love interspersed with beautiful abstract art in vivid colours. The poems vary in length from a few short ones to some that are very long. Together, they cause the reader to reevaluate his or her conception of love in all its forms – the lover – the mother – the child – acceptance of self, and love for and from an omnificent God. “The Temple of the Heart”, one of the longest poems, contrives to address all of those loves and more. Delve deep and Dr. Tony Beizaee’s Jewish beliefs are clear, and never more so than in “Jerusalem” and the final words of the last poem – "As love is God, as God is love, as the ultimate poetry is love”.

“My hunger has become a fain of fasting” is an evocative line from the poem My Love, the first of Dr. Tony Beizaee’s offerings in Love Poems, and it drew me into a fascinating collection of an unusual version of freestyle poetry that makes use of capitalized words to create an extraordinary emphasis. In many, capitals are used extensively, yet in “Mother” only for forms of “love”, which gives a feeling of quiet tenderness remembered. “The Blanket of Love”, dedicated to Holocaust victims, is the most unusual poem of understanding and remembrance I have ever read, the sheer horror half-hidden but inescapably present. “The Sunrise of Love”, truly romantic, is encapsulated in its short final lines, “and giving love is the ring of the wedding”. Clever and thought-provoking, Love Poems is a poetry book to treasure.

Dr. Tony Beizaee’s anthology, Love Poems, is exactly as suggested by the title. A collection that explores various forms of love and that also captures the beauty of love and the freedom that comes with it. In it, love is expressed toward a person, a group of people or a place. In the case of the poem, My Love, words of love are directed towards a person. In The Blanket of Love, the poet dedicates this composition to the victims of the Holocaust. Many forms of love form the themes for the verses in Love Poems. These include forgiveness, devotion and gratitude, as in the case of the poems, Forgiveness, The Prayers and Mother, respectively. Aspects of culture and spirituality also form fabrics for some poems in the selection.

Dr. Tony Beizaee definitely has a way with words. His expressions are so vivid when paired with the colorful images contained in the collection. The abstract art blended with actual images makes a powerful contrast while the colors are enthralling. The collection’s content is also greatly diverse. I liked that the poet did not only focus on romantic love but ventured into other forms of love. Some of these include love expressions to God and to a parent. The poem In The Blanket of Love was deeply moving. The lines: "As many as six million, makes a noise falling, a nostalgic heroism" were deeply emotive. Lastly, I think the best part of the collection is that it contains features of the poet’s own heritage and personality.

Love Poems by Dr. Tony Beizaee is, as the title suggests, a collection of poems presented in book form. Love Poems is essentially a book of poems that primarily talk about romantic love and love between two people. The book is a slim one and starts off with a short dedication by Tony to various “loves” in his life, including his family. This gives an initial sense of what the book is about and the style of writing. The rest of the book is broken down into poems and musings that mostly deal with romantic love between a couple or lovers. There is an element of spirituality in some of the poems in the sense that they talk about spiritual love or the love someone may feel for a higher being. There are illustrations provided throughout the book that complement the poems and provide a vivid contrast of color.

Love Poems is a short read with most of the poems being a page or two long. The writing style is also similar across the board and there is a lot of intensity through the use of words that denote passion, joy, etc. conveyed throughout the book. The poems follow a common theme of romantic love, but the parts I enjoyed the most are the ones where the meanings of words blend and “Beloved,” for example, can be used to refer to another person or to a higher spirit. Even more than the poems, it is the art in the book and the book cover that is most eye-catching. I loved the bright, vivid fusion of colors and they really elevate the overall look and feel of the book.

Love Poems by Dr. Tony Beizaee is a beautiful collection of poetry about love. The poems explore a spiritual journey that is breathtaking and unfolds through a connection with love. The collection is full of heart and humanity, with striking imagery and metaphors that will leave an impression. The writing is passionate and has a lyrical movement as a deep amount of feeling is put into every word. Colorful illustrations can be found throughout. Tony Beizaee has a metaphorical and lyrical style with each of the poems focusing on love. The language is old fashioned with words like thou, anon, and thy, which give the poems a timeless quality where they feel both modern and of the past.

Some of the poems give the impression of the narrator speaking directly to you. This is seen in several, but it's clear in the opening poem of “My Love” which sets the tone for the collection. This poem has a clear example of the language found throughout with its stunning turns of phrases like “in the moment of immortality unveil to exist between us.” Beizaee explores different layers of love from spiritual love to passionate love. Love is often personified and broken apart with salvation, vindication, and sanctification explored as various parts. The poems come from a spiritual place and often describe love as consuming. An honest understanding of humanity is seen throughout the poems, specifically in “Open thine own Heart,” which speaks of cleansing the impurities of the world by instead focusing on purity, tenderness, and kindness.

The poems promote kindness and compassion by using love to reach out to others and to find a sense of self through it. This is specific in “The Anatomy of Heart,” which takes the idea of the Kingdom of Ego and explores through it seven castles that make the heart better, such as devotion and radiance. Stunning imagery is abundant and used to explain love as a forever and alive concept, which opens one's eyes to the wondrous sights of love. The illustrations are colorful, mostly with hues of blue and red, and most revolve around a focal point of a heart or two people kissing. Those seeking inspiration will find it in the romantic and beautifully written poetry of Love Poems.
