Author Biography

Beth Gildersleeve lives for a happily ever after, especially when it’s part of a contemporary sweet romance story. Beth’s a big fan of Dr. Brené Brown and her work around shame, vulnerability, and bravery. Her characters’ struggles and successes reflect these themes. When Beth isn’t plotting or writing, she’s busy Googling answers to her adult daughters’ questions (they still think she knows everything), finding misplaced items for her husband of almost thirty years, serving her rescued dogs’ needs, losing at Words with Friends, and searching for the last three books to complete her Betty Neels collection. She is a member of RWA and Northern Lights Writers.

In Beth Gildersleeve's debut novel, Love Rehired, we are introduced to funny perfectionist Emily. And to call Emily a workaholic is a bit of an understatement. She's given more of her time and devotion to Hart Hospitality than anyone could ever match. But it had its major downsides. Not only was her demanding job putting her health and sanity at risk, but she was finding it difficult to control her less than professional feelings toward her boss. So she left. Now, a year later, she is convinced to come back by the matriarch of the company. But is the promise of real lunch breaks and strictly confined working hours enough? Can she keep this going around Jackson?

For a debut novelist, Beth Gildersleeve has done an amazing job. This is one of those romantic stories that make you feel bubbly and warm, not passionate and hot. And I feel the romance genre has been taken over by the latter, so I'm glad to enjoy this sweet, sometimes funny story in Love Rehired. It's also a unique story in that Jackson attempts to help Emily find a new man in her life in order to defeat his own feelings for her. Of course we know how this goes. The writing is descriptive, but never drags too much. And there has clearly been attention to detail as the editing is spot on, a trait not found too often in first-time authors. If Gildersleeve can recreate the charm of Love Rehired in her next book, and the books after that, I think she will be a very successful author. So I highly recommend diving in and enjoying these two realistically flawed, yet relatable and likable characters that Beth has created.

Love Rehired: A Second-Chance Sweet Contemporary Romance is written by Beth Gildersleeve. Emily had loved her job as the administrative assistant to the CEO of Hart Hospitality, but she had no choice but to abruptly leave when Jackson denied her request for time off. He hadn’t been willing to listen to her reason why she needed the time and refused to even consider having a part-time replacement. After Emily’s departure, Jackson went through replacement after replacement until his grandmother, one of the Board of Directors for Hart, told him in no uncertain terms that the Board had found his assistant but that she would be answerable to the Board instead of him. Her scheduled hours would be strictly adhered to, and she would be taking real lunch breaks each day. While Jackson’s ego was a bit ruffled at the Board’s taking charge in this way, he did miss having a competent assistant. If only things had worked out better with Emily. None of her replacements had compared.

Beth Gildersleeve’s contemporary romance novel, Love Rehired: A Second-Chance Sweet Contemporary Romance, is a light-hearted and enjoyable tale about interpersonal relationships in the office. The author’s characters are finely honed, and the setting she creates is credible and compelling. I especially liked the focus she puts on employee rights and Emily’s new resolve to put her health and self-care above her job and its requirements. This is an especially important message in today’s culture where long hours, 24-hour cellphone access and working lunches are considered essential for getting ahead in business. Love Rehired is well written and a joy to read. It’s most highly recommended.

Fifteen months earlier, Emily Potter left her position as Executive Assistant to Jackson Wyatt, CEO of Hart Hospitality. Mrs. Hart, Jackson’s grandmother and on the Board of the company, hired a new assistant with some stipulations. Her workday is 8:30 – 5:00 with no extra hours expected, and she must take a lunch break. When Jackson sees that the “new” assistant is Emily, emotional conflicts arise for both of them. During her time away from the job she had always loved, Emily learned to face her perfectionism, lose weight and develop healthy boundaries. In Love Rehired: Haven Book 1, written by Beth Gildersleeve, the relationship between Jackson and Emily is fully explored. Will they remain professional colleagues, be friends only, or become romantically involved? At the same time, the future of Hart Hospitality is at a crossroads, as Chance Resorts is actively pursuing an acquisition of them.

This romance novel is more complex than many in the genre. There is the addition of well-meaning friends of both main characters, other professional colleagues such as the intern Will, the Hart family, and the companies of Hart Hospitality and Chance Resorts. This adds more interest and intrigue to the story line. The author writes in a smooth, flowing manner; it is easy for the reader to distinguish between characters and follow each plot. Author Beth Gildersleeve has developed an engaging and entertaining romance novel in Love Rehired: Haven Book 1. It seems there may be plans to make this fictional work the first of a series. Many readers will be anticipating the next phase in Jackson and Emily’s relationship.
