Lunacy Sneezed on my Family by Cortney Edwards is the life story of the author's mother and it is also a good tool for readers to understand the painful and unpredictable behaviors of mental illness. The diagnosis of Cortney's mother's mental illness was wrong from the beginning till the very end - she was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and delusion occurring in conjunction with insecurities, paranoia, isolation, sleep deprivation, mistrust, and suspicion. The author speaks about how his mother was given a lot of medication and how she lived a life filled with pain and with unasked and unanswered questions. The book reveals how the author's mother witnessed her parents' murder/suicide tragedy at a very young age and how the trauma that lay dormant in her for years slowly started to raise its ugly head when she reached her teens, and how her life changed after getting married to her high school sweetheart.

The book is honest and raw and gives readers a glimpse into their family's history of lunacy, medications and its side effects. The author's love for his mother is evident from the book and he speaks of the incidents in his life which were as bizarre and complicated as his mother, uniting them in an inexplicable way. The author handles a painful subject extensively and gives readers glimpses into his dysfunctional family and episodes of his mother's mental disorder. It is a memoir of love, kindness, and family bonding and will leave its mark on the hearts of readers.
