This is a fantastical, adventure that constantly kept me on my toes. I was drawn in by the summary but I stayed for the interesting plot, the otherworldly setting, and the distinctive characters. Pran has been labeled and known as the ‘magic teacher’s son’ because of his father’s position as the master of his school. He is observed by his father more than others and this is a burden he must bear as a conjurer and Master Gilamond’s son. Little does he know that the role he plays in his world is bigger than just being the schoolmaster’s son.

This story is David Harten Watson’s labor of love and hard work. It is detailed and precise. Watson delights in sharing various interesting information and facts about the world he built. This shows me that the author has put a lot of thought and care into creating this world. The plot is enticing and complex. I found myself constantly curious about what happens next. I was enticed by Pran’s journey as he travels to Earth for the Kingdom of Eldor’s survival. His trials and struggles constantly put me on the edge of my seat and I silently cheered him on as I read. I can tell the author is proud of the world he has created and rightly so! Magic Teacher’s Son has great potential and I can’t wait to explore this world more in the next book!

Watson’s detailed world-building makes it so easy to imagine every detail of this fantastic and magical world. Coupled with interesting characters and a rich plot, Magic Teacher’s Son is definitely a must-read novel. I loved the way magic is used by utilizing a resource, especially where white magic uses gold and silver whereas black magic uses blood and bone. Details like this make a book enjoyable. The book is clearly aimed at adolescent readers and I think it definitely hit its mark; however, it can easily be enjoyed by any fantasy fan. This book is geared toward a male audience and I would have liked to see more female characters in the plot. However, I did thoroughly enjoy reading this book and would definitely recommend it.

It has plenty of action and is an entertaining and fun read, a great introduction to what I hope is a long-lasting series.

One of the most repeated themes is that girls can't do magic, which is from the perspective of these teenage boys, so Pran's journey to Earth flips this idea in the satisfying meeting with Vitina. The lovely introduction of this world sets the stage for more adventures as Magic Teacher's Son is a fun foray into conspiracy, betrayal, first love, friendship, spies, sorcery, and a mysterious world with horseless carriages.
