Mariposa Oracle: The Mirror by Trisha Barry is the sequel to Queen City Licensed Massage Therapist, and it is a spellbinding story that explores the world of alternative medicine. In the first book, the author describes, in a fascinating and humorous manner, Mariposa Oracle’s adventure into the massage business when she first bought a business and plunged in without having ever done any massage in her life. In this second installment, she gets a job as a yoga teacher in Charlotte, NC, and her adventure continues with many discoveries, breakthroughs, and successes in a world riddled with pain and addiction. Follow her as she steps into the world of her clients, dealing with unique challenges while seeking the balance she also needs to run her business.
While Mariposa Oracle: The Mirror focuses on one woman’s adventures into the massage and yoga world, it exposes some of the social and personal issues that people deal with daily, including opioid addiction, epidemics, PTSD, and more. Readers will gain firsthand insight into how yoga can help with the myriad of problems they are confronted with, the place of evidence-based alternative therapies in improving the overall wellbeing of clients, the importance of self-care in recovery, and more. This book shares success stories and follows the sophisticated protagonist as she handles customers and problems that arise along the way. It is filled with adventure, experiences in therapy that are eye-opening and informative, and humor like one finds in no other book.
What I loved most about this book is Trisha Barry’s ability to entertain readers with great storytelling while communicating lessons that add value to their lives. Many readers will identify with the characters, like Sherri and her struggles with change amidst a tumultuous relationship, doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. Mariposa’s art of creating balance in her life will leave readers thinking about how they manage theirs and the different activities they could do moving forward.
