She struggles home, and while unconscious, her husband's ghost heals her ankle. Vivica’s life becomes more challenging daily as she is consumed by illness, pressured for money by her ungrateful children, and pursued by soul-sucking creatures from another dimension. Will Vivica succeed in preserving the family mansion, or will she lose even the memory of her husband’s love to a mystical rival named Melantha? Will help come from an unexpected source?
Melantha by V.A. Smith offers a unique combination of psychological and inter-dimensional fantasy. I enjoyed the heroic struggles of the heroine. Although Vivica became frailer by the hour, she burned with life, love, and determination. It was impossible to tell whether the phantoms were hallucinations or paranormal creatures, yet they were convincingly depicted and posed a real threat. I longed for Vivica to escape the Addab and Qua and outsmart the illness causing her headaches. I was thrilled to see her triumph in at least one of these endeavors. The enduring love story between Nils and Vivica was riveting and unusual. Their life-long devotion burned with a passion and heat that younger couples would covet. The narrative is smooth and readable and this book is worth visiting for adult fantasy readers.
