Life is sometimes hard. Things happen to break your heart and it makes life confusing. “How do you fix a broken heart?” You can ask anyone, and each person you ask will give you a different answer, many of which really don’t help at all. In Rebecca Feldmann’s Melody’s Broken Heart, young Melody is struggling with her own broken heart and trying to find a means to heal it. She tried the advice given by others, but it just added to the painful journey. Finally, Melody chose to continue her life’s journey by doing the things she enjoyed most: painting, reading, snuggling with her dog, and playing with friends. She took her broken heart with her and the healing began – slowly.

Rebecca Feldmann’s picture book, Melody’s Broken Heart, is all about healing a broken heart. Things happen in life that break our hearts, as Melody discovered. It’s difficult to carry on with the added burden of a broken heart. But Melody finds a way and you can, too. Told in the first person narrative, from Melody’s point of view, the young reader can feel the intensity and confusion of Melody’s grief as they follow her difficult journey. At the end of the book, there are pages where the reader can share their own stories, like writing in a journal, to help on their own healing journey. The illustrations are lovely and heartwarming and the book will be a great help to those young readers who need it, as we all do at one time or another. Poignantly beautiful!
