Reviewed by Jamie Michele for Readers' Favorite

Meth Murder & Amazon by G.S. Gerry is a satirical novel written in a splintered narrative and leans heavily on a form of story delivery through a rapid-fire dialogue. The book begins with a family trying to sell their home. The patriarch, Mr. D. Grake, and the matriarch, going by the name of Sergeant Shredded, struggle to get the house sold and resort to new measures to get the property off their hands. And then it all goes downhill as quickly as a methamphetamine rush. It's brutal. Nothing seems to come easily for the family and they are struck by calamity after calamity which, coincidentally, are succinctly summarised during an interview: “For several minutes, Mr. Grake elaborates on all the startling details from the murder, to the meth, to the dreaded jelly bean disease. Interconnecting the dots and painting a nightmarish picture along the way.”

Not everyone is going to fall in love with the stylistic narrative in Meth Murder & Amazon. I'm pretty sure author G.S. Gerry neither cares nor wants your boring, upturned nose anywhere near their book anyway. Line after line, the zingers roll from the mouths of the Grakes through the omniscient voice of the narrator, ticking off what one could only describe as the shouting of “Bazoonga!” as the story progresses. The ancillary characters were most hilarious to me and for the tiny hand they play among already minuscule lines, they are fleshed out beyond a superficial level. I could see the gasp from Annette Corvette when she makes a plot-forming discovery. This book is good for a laugh if that is what you are in the mood for, and good for a laugh if you're a grumpy old cow and are not in the mood for one also.

Meth, Murder, & Amazon by G.S. Gerry recounts a ridiculous chain of events so unbelievable it could only have been true. Mr. Grake, an Amazon employee, has a seemingly perfect life in the suburbs with a wife and kids. However, he inadvertently sets in motion an absurd chain of events when he puts his family home on the market, seeking a move to The Shred Shine State to be closer to his MemeMa, who is suffering from jellybean disease. After a harrowing experience with his first realtor, Mr. Grake approaches a rival agency, only to be accused of murder and cooking meth by his new hires. As events in his life become increasingly chaotic, Mr. Grake plans to do a tell-all in front of the press. But is it a good idea?

Part satire, part dark comedy, Meth, Murder, & Amazon is a wild rollercoaster of a ride from start to finish. Author G.S. Gerry tells an apparently true story about a shocking yet hilarious series of events that took place in the real world to an unfortunate man and his family. The unique satirical style and quirky characters quickly hook you in and keep your eyes glued to the pages until the very end. Some of the stylistic name choices, for example, using the term "assassin" instead of a real estate agent, felt particularly hilarious. The unique idiosyncrasies of each character also add a bit of color to the narrative. If you want to read something hilarious that happens to be a true story, check out Meth, Murder, & Amazon.
