Author Biography

Jeanne Holmberg loves to put a fun spin on learning! Jeanne lives in Massachusetts where she writes educational books in an engaging format for ages 2 - 18. Her goal is to inspire active learning and rich discussion.

Jeanne's five-star educational book, "Crush Math Anxiety With Drones" was featured in the April issue of the Journal of the American Mathematical Society. Jeanne's other educational books "Curious Isabella", "Drawing The Alphabet: My First Take-Along-With-Me Learn-To-Read Activity Book", "Learn To Count With An Octopus Named Oogle" and “My Box Of Toys: No Batteries Needed” have also earned five-star reviews from Readers' Favorite. Another new release in 2023 is "My Favorite Things: And What My Friends Like Too". Jeanne hopes to continue writing educational books to inspire families, mentors and teachers to read, have fun and learn together.

Jeanne has enjoyed life and learning as an educational leader, actuarial analyst, research chemist, and volunteer at a local children's museum. When she is not writing, Jeanne is inspired by spending time outdoors with her Scottish Terrier named Rocky, photographing nature, reading historical fiction, attending car shows and surrounding herself with family and friends.

Jeanne lives by the inspirational quote "Live well, laugh often, love much" by Bessie Anderson Stanley. If she could add one more thought to Bessie Anderson Stanley’s inspirational quote it would be “Live well, laugh often, love much" and learn all along the way!

My Box of Toys; No Batteries Needed by Jeanne Holmberg is a tribute to a child's imagination. A young child with a bright red ball cap demonstrates the many things they can do with their toys. As the title states, none of these toys require batteries, screens, or recharging. Each of these toys encourages active, imaginative play. Items like balls, blocks, and wagons are shown. Two possible actions are included for each toy. For instance, you can build with blocks or knock them down! Both are equally enjoyable. When the child's toy box is almost empty, even the box can be used creatively. The first page is available to personalize with name, age, and favorite toy.

I love the quote by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. that begins this book: "Give children toys that are powered by their imagination, not by batteries." In this world full of screens, electronics, and passive toys, we desperately need a return to toys that children can pick up and play with anytime. Jeanne Holmberg has demonstrated the joy that can be experienced when kids are allowed to take a toy and investigate what to do with it. My Box of Toys; No Batteries Needed shows that classic toys can lead to hours of enjoyment and learning. The simple illustrations include a delightful little black Scottish terrier who appears on most pages. The large font and simple text would allow an older child to read it to their younger companions. This book celebrates the pleasure children will find in play that engages their minds and bodies.
