My Dad's Beard by Zanib Mian is a delightfully charming story about a little boy's observation of beards. The little boy's dad has a prickly black beard. His uncle's and grandfather's beards are different. The beard tickles him when his dad kisses him. The beard is also very messy when his dad wakes up and at times he notices bread crumbs sit on the beard. The little boy knows when his dad kisses him goodnight because of the beard. It is a story filled with family love and warmth. The boy's thoughts on beards are funny and interesting to read.

The author writes about a topic that is usually not discussed much in children's storybooks. Hence the book is original and will make young readers look at bearded people in a different light. The illustrations are excellent and highlight the beards of the boy's father, uncle and grandfather. They also breathe life into the characters and scenes, giving them good movement. The format is very childlike and it's just as if a child has written the book. The book is good for bedtime story-telling and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries.

The story is filled with warmth and it's unique content makes it eligible to be added to any bookshelf at home or any library. The boy's sentiments about his father's beard and his reasons on why his mother, sister and grandmother love it are indeed very interesting.
