Author Biography

Jeanne lives by the inspirational quote “Live well, laugh often, love much” by Bessie Anderson Stanley. Her compassion for people and innate curiosity eventually led her to a rewarding career in teaching. Although she has retired from the classroom, she has not retired from learning and teaching. Jeanne is currently focused on writing books that blend information, inspiration and whimsy. Through her books, she hopes to inspire active learning and rich discussion. Jeanne also enjoys reading historical fiction, spending time outdoors, and surrounding herself with family and friends. If she could add one more thought to Bessie Anderson Stanley's inspirational quote it would be: “Live well, laugh often, love much", and learn all along the way!

Jeanne has enjoyed life as an educational leader, teacher, actuarial analyst, research chemist, and volunteer at a local children’s museum. As an undergraduate, Jeanne double majored in mathematics and chemistry. She has a master’s degree in education from Elms College, and a post-master’s degree in educational leadership from Westfield State University. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and their very sweet Scottish Terrier named Rocky. You can follow Jeanne and Rocky at jeanneholmberg.com

My Favorite Things: And What My Friends Like Too is a children's book written and illustrated by Jeanne Holmberg. If you love playtime with your friends, what are their names? Riley loves the playground, eating berries, reading, going to the zoo, drawing, and petting baby animals. Most of all, Riley loves playing with friends. Riley and his friends love playing with building blocks, solving puzzles, and kicking a ball around. They also love to play with toy trucks, toy cars, and toy animals, cook on a toy stove, and ride their bikes and scooters. Riley and his friends love hanging out together.

I liked reading My Favorite Things as children so often become bored and complain that they have nothing to do. Not only does the book include an interactive activity page for young readers, but it also lays out the many things that children can learn to entertain themselves. Young readers can find a multitude of things to do that will not land them in trouble - even taking time out to read at the local library - and encouraging them to do so helps them think outside the box of video games and television. With the current social norm revolving around playing games on social media or text messaging people from around the world, it is great to see that there is a way to take things back to a simpler time. Social interaction helps young minds build a bright future and I recommend My Favorite Things by Jeanne Holmberg to all young readers aged five years and over.
