My Mother’s Tattoo and Other Stories for Kids by Nanette L. Avery is a fun little book. Each of the three chapters is a different story. The chapters are My Mother’s Tattoo, Octavia’s Uphill Battle, and Madame La Mew Puts Her Paw Down. The three chapters of this book are each interesting but different. One features a day at the beach for three children and their mother. The second has a mule as its main character. Your child will laugh at what the mule Octavia wears on her hoofs. Last but not least is the story about two kittens, their mom, and their aunt.

Nanette L. Avery has a way with words. She wrote My Mother’s Tattoo and Other Stories for Kids with fun reading as a goal. Your child will enjoy the humor and adventure of each story. In addition, important lessons are taught as kids enjoy the stories. For example, one lesson is that politeness is always proper, even if you are at a beach. Another lesson teaches that curiosity can get you in trouble, especially when disobeying your parents' warnings. This is a great introduction to chapter books. Simple line drawings illustrate the stories. Younger children may need help with some of the words, but overall, I would recommend this book to young readers. I highly recommend this book for you and your child’s enjoyment.

My Mother’s Tattoo and Other Stories for Kids is a collection of three amusing short stories by Nanette L. Avery. The first story starts with excited preparations for a day at the beach. It’s all bubbly and fun until young Roxy gets lost while tailing a bird. The second story, Octavia’s Uphill Battle, features the most unique horse I’ve ever heard of. Octavia is an elegant mule that wears pink roller skates. One day, she and her equally elegant rider go for a ride, and it starts to rain cats and dogs. How does Octavia navigate through slippery terrain? In the last story, Madame La Mew has a hard time naming her identical twin kittens, even with the help of her friend, Miss Demeanor, until one fateful incident settles her indecision.

The highlight of this book was its characters. The characters were exciting and likable, and they made the book memorable. I also liked the characters’ unique names; I couldn’t help but smile at some of them. In addition to these, I liked the flow of the stories. Each introduces the characters and setting, progresses to the point of dilemma, and finally resolves in a sweet happy ending. I also liked the lighthearted tone and diverse settings of the stories. I enjoyed reading My Mother’s Tattoo and Other Stories for Kids, and although this is a children’s book, I believe both children and adults will enjoy it. Nanette L. Avery did good storytelling here.

My Mother's Tattoo And Other Stories for Kids by Nanette L. Avery is a collection of three short stories for young children. In the first, sisters Roxy and Joan prepare for a trip to the beach. After packing towels, snacks, and more, the girls finally head off on their outing. After a long drive, they arrive and pick out the perfect spot to set up camp for the day. A little later on, something happens to one of the girls, and all of a sudden Roxy can't find her mom. Will she find her and will their fun continue? In the second, we meet a rollerblading horse named Octavia. Her rider Ms Winthrop and Octavia find themselves in a tricky situation. With heavy rain and a steep hill, will Octavia be able to make it up safely? In the final story, we are introduced to a litter of kittens, whose mom tries to keep them all in check. The mom struggles to think of the perfect names for her kittens, but thanks to an unfortunate yet inevitable accident, she comes up with names almost instantly.

My Mother's Tattoo is jam-packed with adventure. As soon as I read the first few pages, I was drawn into the author’s creative world. Each story is completely different and the writing remains highly professional throughout. The contents read smoothly and the scenes are descriptive enough so that you can visualize them clearly in your head, which will give children an even better reading experience. I would have liked to have seen more illustrations in the book as the few that were included are adorable. I recommend this wonderful book to any young reader as they are bound to be entertained by Nanette L. Avery's words. Keep up the good work and I hope to read more from you soon.
