Nana Will Say Yes by Alise Curran is a children’s picture book about the memories that are made between a granddaughter and her Nana. These precious moments will hopefully last a lifetime. The story is direct with short lines of text that would be suitable for a child who is learning how to read. It is filled with bright and colorful illustrations created by Aisha Gohar. The images are cheerful and will bring a smile to many children’s faces. Her talent for illustration is continued at the end of the story with an extra activity page.

Alise Curran’s Nana Will Say Yes encapsulates the bond between a grandparent and a child in a clever way that children will be able to grasp quickly. One of the elements of the story that I enjoyed was that Nana was not too old and wrinkled. Most children’s picture books that depict grandparents have them looking a bit long in the tooth and it was truly nice to see a younger-looking grandmother. For the modern times that we live in it is a more accurate portrayal if a grandparent is younger and without greying hair and lots of wrinkles. This is the perfect gift for a child who has a special bond with their Nana or a child who has an attachment to an older person. It’s important to note that a bond can be formed with a great-aunt or an older and dear friend of the family. A book such as this could be used to fill that need in many ways.
