Neverdying by Shanti Hershenson is a bleak dystopian young adult fantasy novel. Scarlett Caldwell discovered that she was an immortal at a very tender age. Immortals are not accepted in this society and are deemed to have an unfair advantage in life. She has a gruesome experience and decides to stay off-grid, away from her family. Scarlett finds a group of fellow immortals, and she decides to live with them in seclusion. This all changes when she is sent on an errand to get supplies for her colony. She meets Cain Hawkins unexpectedly, who turns out to be a trainee exterminator. Cain has been trained to kill immortals and was ready to begin his duties as an exterminator. Cain begins to question everything he stands for after his encounter with Scarlett. His beliefs are further tested when he discovers something shocking about himself during the final stage of graduation.

Shanti Hershenson is a talented author who managed to keep me intrigued from start to finish. The story was fast-paced and did not drag at any point. Scarlett and Cain had the most beautiful chemistry, and their characters drove this storyline well. I loved Cain's inner monologue and his internal conflict was well described. Cain's struggle became my struggle, and I enjoyed trying to make decisions with him. Scarlett was trying to live a quiet life, but trouble kept calling. I admired her character development and how she showed her growth during the showdown at the end of the book. Neverdying is the first installment of a new series. I cannot wait to read more of this author's books because that plot twist at the end left me craving more.
