Nicki Got Spunk is a work of fiction in the contemporary romance, interpersonal drama, and slice-of-life subgenres, and it forms the third novel in the Colors of Happiness book series. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience and contains some non-graphic romantic scenes. Penned by author Annette G. Anders, we find ourselves along for the ride with protagonist Nicki, who intends to escape the errors of her last relationship by having a little rest and relaxation with her sister on Martha’s Vineyard. Little does she know that the hunk she wants to pick up for some harmless fun comes with a lot more baggage, intensity, and deep feelings than she’d bargained for.

Author Annette G. Anders has packed a lot into this bright and fast-paced romantic read, not least in the swell of character development and intense relationship dynamics that she creates right from the start. Nicki is an instantly likable rogue of a character, attempting a regret-free lifestyle after ditching the prospect of a terrible marriage in her future. Parker is a well-developed male lead with a ton of complications of his own, and I really enjoyed the way the author conveyed familial pressure and expectations in his emotional story arc. This makes for some highly realistic interaction and a believable romance plot that deepens well over time and really has you rooting for the couple’s happiness by the end. Overall, Nicki Got Spunk is a very entertaining read for those who want to get deeply invested in a well-penned immersive love story.

Annette G. Anders’ story Nicki Got Spunk: Colors of Happiness - Book III is a romantic novel featuring Nicki and Parker. Nicki is single, but her ex-fiancé Ray will not accept that their relationship is over and keep tabs on her indirectly through her friend Ally. Nicki goes to Martha’s Vineyard for her sister’s baby shower to escape, but somehow Ray follows under the pretext of playing golf at a charity event. Meanwhile, Parker has arrived at his parents' home with a baby. The mother, who is his ex-girlfriend, has abandoned their daughter Clover. However, Parker’s parents are far from accepting their grandchild’s presence. When his best friend Matt suggests that Mimi and Nicki watch Clover while he goes on a morning run, Parker is smitten by Nicki’s enthusiastic response. Has fate brought the two broken-hearted people together?

Annette G. Anders penned a realistic story that I could relate to. Parker’s ex-girlfriend Beth was a horrible parent. Despite Clover derailing his entire life, I found it admirable that he took on the responsibility. I thought that Nicki should break all ties with her friend Ally, especially since it is apparent that Ally gossips about Nicki’s plans. Ray seemed to think his parents' money elevated him above everyone. The way Parker and Nicki seemed comfortable talking to each other laid a better foundation for both of them. Every detail of the friendship and family dynamics was vivid. Envisioning the pleasant sound of the waves on the beach was relaxing. I could not put the book down as the building tension intrigued me. The unpredictable turns in the story continued to the end. I recommend Nicki Got Spunk to romance readers who enjoy realistic stories.

Nicki Got Spunk is the third book in the Colors of Happiness series by Annette G. Anders. Unlike other women, Nicki Albizia wasn’t chasing after a happily-ever-after. She thought all that was overrated, especially after she broke off her engagement to Raymond. When the gorgeous Parker Haynes crossed her path, Nicki was ready to jump back in the saddle and have fun. However, things weren’t that easy for her. Parker came with a package deal, as he had a daughter named Clover who always came first. There was sizzling chemistry between them, and neither could deny it. Parker and Nicki had been burned before and feared what falling in love would bring to their lives. Would they give love a chance or would they deny what they desperately want?

I love the Colors of Happiness series by Annette G. Anders. I fell in love with Annette’s style and her stories when I read Bellini’s Mimosa. I somehow missed Paloma in a Pickle, but I was delighted to get my hands on Nicki Got Spunk. Annette created the perfect atmosphere with Martha’s Vineyard in the background and a feisty protagonist. Nicki was everything I wished her to be. She was confident, independent, spunky, and had a personality that would put starlets to shame. Poor Parker stood no chance. Parker was hurt, but he was kind. He loved Clover, and it showed. I loved the story even more when Parker and Nicki let their barriers down and enjoyed each other’s personalities. Clover was the perfect icebreaker and did a fantastic job of bringing the two protagonists together. The narrative maintained a fast pace without overwhelming readers, the story was powerful, and the characters were perfect. Both Parker and Nicki went on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and learning to trust once again. I enjoyed this novel and would highly recommend this series to all romance fans.
