No Small Murder by Lena Gregory is the first in the Mini-Meadows Mystery series. A new resident has arrived at the tiny home community, taking over Emma’s peaceful view. Emma, a downsizing specialist, enjoys the perks of the quaint life Mini-Meadows offers but that peaceful existence gets shaken up when a body is discovered and she suspects someone in her community could be the culprit. It becomes even more personal when the police seem to think that one of her friends could be responsible. Wanting to help her friend, Emma decides to investigate the case herself but investigating her neighbors in a community of small homes could ruffle a few feathers and could draw unwanted attention from the real killer.

The setting is delightfully original, standing out among other mysteries with its tiny house community. It’s quickly established as being a place where everyone knows everyone and everything that happens. It immediately sets up a fun atmosphere while establishing the dynamic between Emma and her friends. Chloe has an insatiable thirst for understanding people and a knack for predicting who is going to stay while Jade is very blunt with her opinions. The two of them round out Emma’s story as they serve as perfect sleuthing accomplices and sources of comic relief that match her personality well. Granny Rose is a treasure and her arrival provides insight into why Emma moved to Mini-Meadows and what she gave up to do so. Granny Rose brings with her memories and family drama, prompting Emma to reflect on when she was disinherited and think about what her life would have been like if she had stayed. Rose is now Emma’s house guest who brings a little drama into Emma’s life such as needing to rearrange her routine, but it also gives her a sense of family. Granny Rose is sure to be a favorite. Lena Gregory creates a charming setting that comes to life in No Small Murder which has fun characters, humorous dialogue, and a well-plotted murder mystery.
