Nobody Tells Lia Anything is a work of women’s fiction and chick lit penned by author Carol Maloney Scott. This clean romance forms the first book of the Spooky Matchmakers series, combining beyond the grave hi-jinks with modern day rom-com styling. Our central heroine is Lia, who is only in her twenties when her beloved grandmother passes away. Granana’s final wish is for Lia to take up a position as a social director in her old community of Applebarrow, so Lia leaves her previous job behind, along with her boyfriend Jason. But in her new town, she discovers that the living and the dead are both hiding secrets from her, and as new romance blooms, so does the desire to find out the truth at last.

This was a delightfully quirky read with plenty of charm, suspense, and a little of the paranormal tossed in for good measure. Lia is a typical young heroine of the genre, bright-eyed and ill-equipped for many of the life experiences now being thrown at her. Author Carol Maloney Scott uses this character archetype to its full advantage for her story, playing on the idea that Lia is deliberately clueless and must be encouraged to finally discover things for herself. I liked the development of her relationship with Logan as the tale progressed, but I also enjoyed the fact that the main focus was on Lia being at peace with herself and not just finding a new man. Overall, Nobody Tells Lia Anything is sure to please chick lit fans looking for something new and different.
