Author Biography

When my symptoms first appeared in 1976 at the age of 14, I really had no idea how serious a medical battle or the toll that it might take on me. However, as time went by it became abundantly clear that I was now in the fight of my life.

For the majority of those 44 years, finding a balanced lifestyle and a healthy way to deal with this medical situation was to say at the very least, elusive. Eventually, I found balance by making a commitment to his own unique and unorthodox approach to counteract the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

The book, “Not Afraid to Fall,” is a non-fiction work that chronicles my journey with PD from early onset of the disorder, to the present day. The physical and mental challenges having this disease poses continues to reaffirm the person that I've become and has defined the very fabric of my being that I'm most proud of.

On the outside looking in, some people might think that Parkinson's disease has ruined my life. Quite the contrary! My experience with the disease has undoubtedly impacted and restricted some aspects of how I live my life. This is to be expected. It also has liberated me in ways that I never could have imagined. The gift in the real-life lessons that PD has taught me, I hope to share with the many people afflicted with this disease, their caregivers and others that might be suffering from unresolved traumatic issues impacting their lives.

Not Afraid to Fall by Brian Hall comprises nine chapters of faith, strength, and courage in a man who simply did not want to give up. When Brian Hall saw the early signs of Parkinson's disease, he was just 14 years old. It was at that moment when Brian promised himself he would not be afraid and he would not give in. While the medical condition gave him a worthy fight, Brian always one-upped it and made sure he taught the disease that he was never giving up. He found a healthy balance in which he could fight the disease and live his life to the fullest. His approach was unorthodox, but it worked. He shares his journey from the hardest of times to the times when he felt at his best. He shares his experiences with the disease, how he manages his day to day life, and how going through DBS surgery affected him.

This real-life hero shows that anyone can do whatever they want and achieve it too, if only they put their mind to it. Brian Hall's journey is beautifully and eloquently revealed in this book where he takes readers back to when he was at his worst and shows them how his actions made him the man he always wanted to be. A chronic illness like Parkinson's disease scared me for a long time, but reading the author’s first-hand account made me realize how inconsequential everything becomes when you want something badly. His story, his struggles, and his positivity would be a huge help to those who need it the most, especially those fighting Parkinson's disease. His story was almost healing for the soul and made me realize how blessed I was even with all my flaws. A very helpful book for anyone who is going through tough situations and needs a boost.
