Author Biography

K. Thomas is a human, not a talking cat.
This is her first novel. She meant to publish one sooner, but fell in love with her day job. Unlike her main character, she likes numbers and budgets, almost as much as she likes words.

In K. Thomas's Not Right Now, Senlis is a Nephilim. It was normal for her to be beyond empathic. She absorbed emotions and energy from people, but she couldn't control it, nor could she remember the past that should have come to her so easily. In her dreams, or sometimes even when awake, visions of the past haunt her, centering around Johan, someone she hopes is long gone from their lives. Add these factors to the art of trying to balance Benny and Hunter as they clash, and she really doesn't know if she's coming or going. So when something happens and an opportunity to change things presents itself, what choice is there but to be pulled along for the ride, hoping to right a wrong and hopefully find answers.

Not Right Now is the second book in K . Thomas's Time to Wake series. Not having read the first book in the series, I was a little concerned I would lose key elements, especially at the beginning. However, as the chapters progress, the author does a good job of bringing readers up to speed to the point where everything that's occurring is understandable despite us having missed pinnacle events in the first book. I enjoyed the character development. The scenes between Sen and Hunter were brilliantly written to portray the unfolding of their relationship. Heat and sweetness along with uncertainty, barriers, and doubts all factor into this, especially given that Hunter has thousands of years worth of memories of his time spent beside Sen, memories she lacks.

With great characters and a unique plot, this book will have you hooked in no time. Packed with action and adventure, with a sprinkling of magic, romance, and a generous dash of the paranormal, this book combines all my favorite elements in a gripping and enjoyable way that not only has me wanting to read the first book but waiting for the next in the series. I mean with an ending like that, how could I not what to know what comes next? I really enjoyed the plot and the characters.

Not Right Now is a work of fiction in the paranormal romance genre and serves as the second installment in the Time to Wake series. It is aimed at adult readers and was penned by K. Thomas. The book continues the saga of Senlis and her allies after their victory in the first book. Left vulnerable after her previous battles, Senlis must struggle to regain her abilities while also coming to terms with her past. As she finally begins to progress with these struggles, she finds herself racing against the clock to bring her friend Benny back to life.

The second installment in a series is probably the most difficult one to pitch to your readers. You’ve proven that the concept works enough for a story, but now you need to prove that the characters you created and already pushed to their limit once have more room for development and growth. K. Thomas, however, rises to the challenge exceptionally, taking Senlis, Benny, and Hunter and continuing their journey by pushing them into new and exciting situations which show different sides to their characters and create a fascinating growth beyond the already fleshed out individuals we met in the first book. Not Right Now is a masterclass in growing the world of the series in a manner that constantly adds and improves on the material in the first book without ever contradicting or overcomplicating the world. It is an excellent piece of paranormal fiction that I would happily recommend to any fans of the genre.

Not Right Now is the second book in the Time to Wake series by K. Thomas. The struggles of Senlis continue as she tries to find a balance with the freedom and control her new lifestyle offers her. Being a Nephilim is not easy, especially when the people closest to her are not getting along. Her relationship with Vincent is not the same anymore, and neither is the relationship between Hunter and Benny. While Senlis works hard to learn from her past and awaken her powers, Benny and Hunter seem to find trouble with each other without even trying. However, when tragedy strikes Benny, Senlis knows she, Hunter, and the entire group will have to work together to make things right once again. In the meantime, she has to hold on to her heart and not give it up to Hunter. Can she do it all?

Sequels have a bad rep, and it is sometimes valid for a reason. However, Not Right Now is perhaps one of the best sequels I have read so far this year. Right off the bat, the author sets the tone of the story and lets readers know they are in for a ride. K. Thomas pushes the characters and allows them to fully grow to their potential. While the tension between Hunter and Senlis is still sizzling, Benny’s tension is something else. It drives the story forward; it pushes Senlis to think beyond her immediate issues and try to build relationships and secure friendships (which will help her in the long run). The dialogues are fantastic and riddled with humor to lighten the story. The pace is just perfect, the narrative is smooth, and the character growth is brilliant. A perfect sequel, indeed!

Vincent Dublado

Welcome to book two of the Time to Wake Series. Author K. Thomas brings back Senlis in Not Right Now. The confrontation that she had with Jonah has strained her relationship with Vincent. She continues to get her memories back in order to awaken the full force of her powers as she picks up clues from her past in order to solve the riddle of what Jonah and Hunter have to do with her life. Her brother, Benny, has done something that causes him to fall seriously ill, triggering Senlis and her friends to battle against time to heal Benny. She has the power to revive her precious brother, but it will not be easy, and it may risk altering Benny’s affectionate perception of her as his sister.

Not Right Now is the stuff that young adult fantasies are made of. You can’t help but feel that once you have read one in this series, you have to read them all. Senlis is a sympathetic character, and the world she inhabits is so well-made that it is hard not to get caught up in the spell of the plot. K. Thomas is well-armed with the rules of writing a good YA fantasy series. She gives you a good reason to fall in love with the characters because she gives them a concrete reason for their existence. Senlis, in particular, struggles to uncover who she really is while also defining the place of those involved with her in the whole scheme of things. As for the romantic angle, it’s a sparky and dreamy romance that develops as the plot unfolds. Not Right Now is an exciting story to read that will leave you in good spirits.
