Nurse Florence®, How Do We Feel Hot and Cold Things? by Michael Dow, RN, MS, begins while Condi is outside playing with her friends, when she realizes that she doesn’t feel too good. She is dizzy, thirsty, and has a headache. Ms. Smith sends Condi to see Nurse Florence to find out why she’s feeling poorly. Condi explains how she feels to Nurse Florence, hoping that she will help her feel better. Nurse Florence checks her blood pressure and asks Condi questions about what she had been doing before she began to feel ill. Will Nurse Florence be able to help Condi and why does the little girl feel so bad? How can she keep from feeling ill like this again?

Nurse Florence®, How Do We Feel Hot and Cold Things? by Michael Dow, RN, MS describes what happened when Condi felt sick after playing in the sun with her friends without stopping to rest or have a drink. This educational story about Condi and her visit to Nurse Florence’s office will help children feel more comfortable visiting a nurse and asking questions about why they are sick. The illustrations by Kenady Kitchen are beautiful and will help young people understand more about what goes on inside the nurse’s office as they read the story. I loved how the author uses the correct terms and then defines them so that young readers can enjoy an interesting tale while learning about medical problems that can arise while playing in the sun. I recommend this book to anyone with children that enjoy learning while they read.
