On the Corner of Liberty and South Loring is a work of non-fiction in the memoir, autobiographical writing, social and cultural writing subgenres. Penned by author Francis Coughlin for the general reading audience, this is a heartwarming and nostalgic journey through the life of the Coughlin family in Lowell, Massachusetts. With a keen eye for detail and a gift for storytelling, Coughlin shares personal and poignant vignettes that span three decades of life in a former mill city on the cusp of renewal. Through the pages of this delightful book, readers are transported to a simpler era, where the joys, sorrows, and laughter of everyday life come to life. From their triple-decker building to the streets of Lowell, the Coughlin family's experiences are a charming and relatable window into the past.

Author Francis Coughlin’s warm and humorous narrative style invites readers to savor every moment, appreciating the beauty of ordinary life through comfortable narration that always feels like a friend telling you about their family’s exploits. Penned with loving detail and meticulous research, this heartwarming account will leave readers with a renewed sense of appreciation for the small but significant moments that shape our lives and is certainly a must-read for those non-fiction fans who enjoy tales of family, nostalgia, and the power of ordinary moments to create lasting memories. Overall, On the Corner of Liberty and South Loring is a celebration of family, community, and the enduring spirit of a city on the brink of rebirth that I would heartily recommend to one and all.

I read "On the Corner of Liberty and South Loring: Stories from 1947 to 1977" straight through cover to cover – couldn’t put it down. It was wonderful – beautiful. I loved it. Fran Coughlin finds humor, meaning, and great goodness in the regular events of his family life growing up in Lowell, Massachusetts, and looks at it all with the eyes of gratitude and love. Great topics, great humor, great asides, great timing, and wonderful tone. Fran is a master storyteller – and he has many really good stories to tell – a great combination. He writes like someone comfortably sitting at a kitchen table or at a bar talking to friends. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it.
