One Night At The Jacaranda by Carol Cooper is a story of discovery, a tale of one night that can change everything you ever thought you knew about yourself or about life. The Jacaranda is holding a speed-dating event. Sanjay has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and doesn’t want to waste another minute. Laure is a lawyer with a colorful past, looking for that perfect someone. Geoff is a divorced doctor who has a rather personal problem and is looking for more to life than he has now. Karen is newly divorced and has four children, and an ex-husband who thinks he can waltz in and out of her life when he wants. Dan is an ex-con who has reinvented his past, Harriet is a journalist working undercover, and Michael has a more sinister side to him than he presents. All of them are looking for something, but will they find it in just three minutes? The road ahead is not as smooth as they would have liked, but secrets and lies are about to be revealed in all their glory.

One Night At the Jacaranda by Carol Cooper was one of these books that started a little slow, but had real depth and meaning to it. The story flits between all of the characters and their different stories, each time revealing a little more of their backgrounds, their thoughts and feelings. It is a fast paced book, has quite a few amusing moments as well as a few sad bits, and it deals very well with every issue that arises. The characters were entirely real and very credible; real human beings instead of made-up characters that live a life we could only dream of. The stories flowed nicely and all came together as they should have done, although perhaps not in the way you might expect when you start the book! Excellent book, very realistic and clearly well thought out. Looking forward to more from Ms. Cooper.
